Jeff Brohm is going back home. After six seasons as the Purdue head coach, Brohm will return to his alma mater and take the head coaching job at Louisville. Jeffrey Scott Brohm is an American football coach and former quarterback, who is the current head football coach of the Louisville Cardinals.

Brohm, a native of Louisville who also quarterbacked the Cardinals in the 1990s, will leave Purdue after six successful seasons to return to his alma mater. The Louisville board of trustees is expected to formally approve Brohm’s contract in a meeting on Thursday.

Brohm’s solid play turned him into the 56th overall selection in the 2008 NFL draft. The Packers selected him hoping he could potentially replace the recently-retired Brett Favre.

Brohm agreed to an extension in April that keeps in with Purdue until 2027, with his 2022 annual salary reaching $5.1 million. The deal also opens up more money to spend on coordinators and assistant coaches, as Purdue looks to continue its forward momentum.

Brohm’s guaranteed compensation, which includes his base salary, supplemental stipend and a $600,000 retention bonus if he remains the head coach on Dec. 31, for the 2022 season is $5.1 million. Brohm’s base salary and supplemental stipend in 2026 will be $4.9 million and increase to $5 million in 2027.

Practice Squad players who fall within one of three parameters for a fixed amount: Fixed weekly salary of $11,500. Practice Squad players who do not fall within one of the three parameters for a fixed amount: Minimum weekly payment of $15,400; maximum weekly payment of $19,900.

Brohm played college football at the University of Louisville for coach Howard Schnellenberger from 1989 to 1993 and played in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons from 1994 to 2000 and the XFL in 2001.
