What FIFA Means?

The FIFA World Cup, often simply called the World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the senior men’s national teams of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, the sport’s global governing body. Founded in 1904 to provide unity among national soccer associations, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) boasts 209 members, rivaling that of the United Nations, and is arguably the most prestigious sports organization in the world.

The subsequent trophy, called the “FIFA World Cup Trophy”, was introduced in 1974. Made of 18 karat gold with bands of malachite on its base, it stands 36.8 centimetres high and weighs 6.1 kilograms (30,875 carats). The trophy was made by the Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni company in Italy.

The Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar will feature 12 teams: England, the Netherlands, Argentina, Australia, Senegal, USA, France, Poland, Morocco, Brazil, Croatia and Portugal. Qatar was the first team to exit the competition for a spot in the Round of 16 after losing their first two games.

With five titles, Brazil is the most successful World Cup team and also the only nation to have participated in every World Cup finals tournament. Italy and Germany have four titles. Current champion France, along with past champions Uruguay and Argentina, have two titles each, while England and Spain have one each.

FIFA makes money through the sale of television, marketing, and licensing rights for football events like the World Cup. Infrastructure costs for World Cup events are left up to host countries, keeping FIFA’s expenses low.

One of the most obvious issues is the stadiums. Of the eight venues, seven have been built from scratch for Qatar 2022. The government says the cost of constructing them has been $6.5 billion. Once the World Cup is over, the country of just 2.8 million people will have no need for so many large venues.

Zimbabwe. Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi has said that Zimbabwe will bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. His idea is to have Harare as the host city but in collaboration with other major cities in the region like Maputo, Johannesburg, Gaborone and Lusaka.

How often is the World Cup? The World Cup, the most prestigious soccer tournament in the world ,is played every four years. This schedule allows time for the qualification tournaments and play-offs to take place, for the 32 national teams to play off in the month-long tournament.

Fifa stands for (in French) Fédération Internationale de Football Association – or the International Federation of Association Football. It runs world football and is in charge of organising and promoting big football tournaments around the globe-the biggest and most famous being the World Cup.

The value of the gold in the World Cup trophy itself is worth $250,000, according to current gold rates.
