How Do You Keep Ants out of Garden Furniture?

Food-grade diatomaceous earth cuts through the ant’s exoskeleton, killing those that come into contact with it. Sprinkling it around plants, into the entrances to the colony, or across trails that ants are using will kill them off. Again, you may have to reapply a few times. Always wear a dust mask when using diatomaceous earth, you don’t want to breathe it in. This approach is great for dry soil, but the more damper things are, the less effective the treatment.

Pour equal parts water and white vinegar into a spray bottle. Then spray it on anthills and around areas where you see the insects. Ants hate the smell of vinegar. It won’t take long for them to move on to better-smelling quarters.

Ants will naturally build their colonies outside. Don’t give them a reason to come inside. Leaving food out, especially sweet or greasy foods will only summon more ants. Having damp or dark unmaintained spaces may give them a place to set up their own workspace.
